Quote – Paul Washer

Perhaps the greatest lie in evangelical Christianity today is that if you “ask Jesus into your heart,” He will most definitely come in.
– Paul Washer

You have not chosen Me, but I chose you out and planted you, that you should go and should bear fruit, and your fruit remain, that whatever you should ask the Father in My name, He may give you.
John 15:16

To Whom Salvation Belongs

And He said, “Because of this, I have told you that no one is able to come to Me except it is given to him from My Father.” From this time many of His disciples went away into the things behind, and no longer walked with Him.
John 6:65-66

Many will say “Amen” or at least silently tolerate you when you tell them that nature determines fruit. But as soon as you say that the will of God determines nature, most will at best leave you for the things that are behind, and perhaps even seek to destroy you. Carnal hearts defy the sole glorification of God alone in salvation.

True Value – Some Thoughts

It is quite grievous to me when some well-meaning person tries to propogate the myth of my intrinsic value before God.

I do not trust the soul which so unduly esteems any man, including myself. For that soul cannot be rightly esteeming Christ, in whom are hidden and revealed the unsearcheable riches of the glory of God. They know not what holy rage and jealousy they provoke in the One by Whom all things consist.

I have no intrinsic value, only Christ does; and that is why I cling to Him, and to no other. But when I did not cling to Him, how devoid was my soul of His eternal joy; and how sumptuously did the fool’s gold glimmer in the false light! Then He Himself lit my darkness when I had not asked, and the gold was all revealed to be dross, and my own life was revealed to be the death of me.

All that I possess of any value to Him is actually His, it never was mine. The only honor I can give to Him is the honor which He has graciously bestowed upon me; and this I shall do, also by His grace. For of myself, I am altogether worthless; and He alone is worthy of my utmost devotion – even were I yet a son of hell.

If we truly value Christ, we cannot but speak of Him if we are to speak of true value. If a thing is not in Him, it is fuel for the fire. Those who have His joy within them know this truth vividly. They find the present world to be a weary abode, a miserable labrynth of fickle trivialities; and they find themselves to be as strangers in it. For the same Priceless Treasure which bought them, although they were worthless, has Himself become their true abode.

Thought & Scripture – God’s Sovereignty

I form light and create darkness, I make well-being and create calamity. I am the Lord, who does all these things.
Isaiah 45:7 (ESV)

It is easy for us to say that God is sovereign over all things; but it is another matter entirely for us to say that He is also sovereign in all things. Few are they that love God for the latter, for He leaves them nothing to boast in, not even their own will.

…for it is God who is working in you both to will and to work for the sake of His good pleasure.
Philippians 2:13

The one saying, “I have known Him,” and not keeping His commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that one. But whoever keeps His word, truly in this one the love of God has been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him.
1 John 2:4-5

Soli Deo Gloria

Quote – Paul Washer

The question (concerning fallen man) is not, “Is there free will?” The question is, “Is there good will?”
– Paul Washer

As it is written: None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.
Romans 3:10-12

Apostacy Quote, & Movements

“The apostasy of the early Church came as a result of a greater desire to see the spread of its power and rule than to see new natures given to its individual members. The moment we covet a large following and rejoice in the crowd that is attracted by our presentation of what we consider truth, and have not a greater desire to see the natures of individuals changed according to the divine plan, we start to travel a road of apostasy that leads to Rome and her daughters.”

– Author Unknown

The gospel which seeks to shake the world but not the hearts of men is no gospel at all. It loves to attract the world, therefore it will gain the world at the forfeiture of its own soul; for the world is seduced by the words of such a harlot. The true body of Christ is never a movement, for such only serves the pride and vanity of man. Men love a movement because it will do the moving for them. Movements are the monuments which mark the resting place of the dead. Man has movements, God has movings. Movements flatter, movings shatter. A movement is a thing, an external item, to be vainly admired and coveted by men; but a moving is a continually active force of nature, in this case divine, which must be at work within and through men individually.

Short Accounts – F. Bartleman

“I came to abhor myself. I begged the Lord to drop a curtain so close behind me on my past that it would hit my heels. He told me to forget every good deed as though it had never occured, as soon as it was accomplished, and go forward again as though I had never accomplished anything for Him, lest my good works become a snare to me.”

– Frank Bartleman

Short accounts should be kept with God as much regarding our good works as with our failings.

Not that I have already obtained, or am already made perfect; but I press on, if it is so that I may take hold of that for which also I was taken hold of by Christ Jesus. Brothers, I don’t regard myself as yet having taken hold, but one thing I do. Forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, think this way. If in anything you think otherwise, God will also reveal that to you. Nevertheless, to the extent that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule. Let us be of the same mind.
