The Hour Of Treason

“…betrayest thou the Son of Man with a kiss?”

The chief enemy of the Truth is pretention: pretention is the epitome of falsehood. Corruption is most fully at work in they that feign loyalty to Christ rather than confessing to have none. In contrast, not one Roman soldier who nailed Jesus to the cross was betraying Him: indeed, few knew anything of him; and even the religious class of the Jews who demanded His death had rarely veiled their hatred of Him. But the betrayor of the Lord walked by His side for three years, waiting for the opportune time at which to give Him over into the hands of men.

Judas! The most cowardly in heart, the most loathsome in spirit! And this same irredeemible wretchedness is present in the midst of God’s people today. But who possesses the fortitude to face Judas and force him into action, saying, “That thou doest, do quickly”? Let it be done, for we shall see the day of Christ only through death! Let there fall swiftly upon us that hour of man and the power of darkness; for we have put off our humiliation far too long. The bread has been dipped and handed over to the traitor, the deepest night closes in, and the kiss of death is already being placed upon the cheek. Time will tell all, and not a moment too soon. Who will face their cross in the hour of treason? Who will for the joy set before them endure it, and scorn its shame?

Thought – Ineffectual Grace

How broadly and thinly we have partaken of the grace of God, that it is become only a veneer to cover up our sins, and not the power to uproot them utterly from the heart by which they continue to be commited! We consider only what is behind – and that with much triteness – taking no thought as to what death we shall continue to sow, and what hell-fire we may thereby reap. The saving power of the grace of God through faith is not found in its being a doctrine admired, but in being a doctrine lived.

For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.

The Third Day – Fruit Of The Spirit

And God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be collected to one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. And God called the dry land, Earth. And He called the collection of the waters, Seas. And God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:9-10

God’s work in separating our waters from His (see previous article) brings upon us the ability and thereby also the responsibility to subdue our own raging waters, so that we as the instruments of His will might not hinder the continued work of His Spirit in and through us.

Excerpt from previous section:
The new creature which submits itself to the word continues discovering the evidence of even greater depths in God far above its present experiential knowledge; thirsting always to drink deeper of that eternal spring so that even the waters of earth below might be made conformable to the word of His mouth…”

“Let the waters under the heavens be collected to one place.” – It is a grave mistake to suppose that just because God has separated our earthly waters from His heavenly ones, He wants nothing to do with them. Truly, He wants to be the only One to do with them: they must also become His waters, for unto His glory they are created. But this can only occur to the degree that we ourselves give them up unto His designs – such obedience is our responsibility. It is by the allowance of His increase within us that we ourselves decrease. There is a purpose for our waters, and it is for a very particular and focused calling, hence the gathering of them into ONE place.” This represents the specific calling of every creature in Him, whatever that may be for each one. For once having partaken of His waters, in drinking more of Him we find greater power to conform our own waters according to His calling.

Subsequent to the second day’s obedience of the dividing of the waters, the third day’s work is revealed in discipline of our unruly waters by the word of His mouth: “Let dry land appear.” This now establishes His solid ground within us, raising up the humbled earthen creature to bear fruit of the Spirit of the Lord…

And God said, “Let the earth sprout tender sprouts, the plant seeding seed, the fruit tree producing fruit according to its kind, whichever seed is in it on the earth.” And it was so.
Genesis 1:11

The planting of God produces various fruits according to the measure of grace given it, which also produce fruit after its own kind. Just as a tree yields others of its kind after itself, so also the fruitful Christian plants the seeds of their Godly virtues in the soil of another’s heart. It is on this third day, after the dry land appears, that the inward work of the Spirit is becoming outwardly evident. Just as the dove later sent from Noah sought out dry new ground, and did not settle until such was found; so also the Spirit of the Lord ever seeks within us the hidden ground in which His roots can spread deeply to support His fruit above, according to the calling with which we have been called.

The third day initiates growth in God: it is the day of resurrection which brings up a fruitful harvest through the dying of former things; so that the coming days might become fully lighted by the sun from within the creation, and even the darkness of each night season be kept lit by that hope of the Day of Christ burning within them as a candle

Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
John 12:24-25

The Church & The Sign Of Jonah

“An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.”
Matthew 16:4

What the adulterous body of Christ requires is not a revival, but a resurrection. Yet a true resurrection requires the body to be fully dead. That which does not die cannot be raised. We think that we shall save the church by trying to keep her alive, when it is God Himself who seeks to complete her death. For “unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” We have before us a choice between the fellowship of man and the fellowship of God. We are so eager to postpone the inevitable, even unto the exclusion of ourselves from glory; but the body of Christ is comprised of those who will die to the elements of this world. Let us therefore abandon all hope in keeping ourselves alive in the world’s eyes, and let the Lord be pleased to crush our idolatrous spirit. The Spirit and power of God is unto those who so humble themselves, and He will raise them up.

So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable. It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. Thus it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.”

Man Reasons, but God Reveals

…as it has been written, “Eye has not seen, and ear has not heard,” nor has it risen up into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for those that love Him. But God revealed them to us by His Spirit, for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. For who among men knows the things of a man, except the spirit of a man within him? So also no one has known the things of God except the Spirit of God. But we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit from God, so that we might know the things that are freely given to us by God. Which things we also speak, not in words taught in human wisdom, but in words taught of the Holy Spirit, comparing spiritual with spiritual. But a natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he is not able to know, because they are spiritually discerned. But the spiritual one discerns all things, but he is discerned by no one. For who has known the mind of the Lord? Who will teach Him? But we have the mind of Christ.

True divine knowledge is not found merely by the reason of the mind; it must be revealed by God. For the true knowledge of God is to know the person of God Himself; and what He has prepared for those who love Him does not enter into the hearts and minds of men – the scripture indeed testifies that it cannot. Rather, the very mind of Christ must enter into a man so that he may discern the things of God.

Those who suppose to uncover God simply by force of reason despise that His method is revelation. Many to whom something of Him has been truly revealed are tempted to flatter themselves by methodically reasoning out what truly was revealed to them of the Everlasting God. This is a snare; and those who step in it prove that they still gladly wander back to partake of the tree of gnosis. Ever has this been the bane of many a man of God throughout the ages: that a revelation becomes buried in the unending interperative jargon of his vain mind, until little more remains than an empty husk of what once bore real and tangeable fruit. The binding up of revelation into the constraints of human reasoning effectively chalks up the work of the Spirit to a mere human exertion. This is made to appear as humility, but truly it is a theft of God’s glory in how He makes Himself known.

Man in his vanity considers reason the great pillar of objectivity, until God ruins him by revelation. For truly the things of God cannot be revealed by a man’s reasoning faculties, but only to them; and even then, our mere thoughts still cannot contain the very substance of God’s Life: for the true knowledge of God consists in fellowship with His person by the power of His Life guiding our steps and conforming us to His image. Therefore, if we shall reason, let it be by the revelation of His Spirit in accordance with the scriptures, and not by our isolated thoughts in accordance with some great philosopher; for God reasons with men by the revealing of Himself. And if we yet lack in the revelation of His person, why do we continue to reason within ourselves, as though we should find it there?

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask from God, who gives to all freely and with no reproach, and it will be given to Him. But let him ask in faith, doubting nothing. For the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, being driven by wind and being tossed. For do not let that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord: he is a double-souled man, not dependable in all his ways.

Man reasons within himself, but God reveals Himself to men.

The Flock of His Inheritence

As for you, do not pray for this people, or lift up a cry or prayer for them, and do not intercede with me, for I will not hear you.
Jeremiah 7:16

In a time of God’s sure wrath upon a nation or people, those among them who seek to ease the swiftness His judgement serve only to join themselves with the condemned. Great deeds and mighty salvation from on high will not be seen by the generation which brought forth the present carnage upon the earth; nor will those escape who partake in their forefather’s sins through fellowship with their empty and evil deeds.

Deliverance is not found by the many through activism, but by the few through repentance. The true flock of God are scattered: they do not gather except as the Lord their Shepherd leads them; and those who accuse them only reveal themselves to be a den of thieves. For it is the day of the scattered and lonely sheep, whose obedience is manifest in their seperation. In silence they bear the weight of rejection until the decree at last goes forth: when the groanings of the righteous are vindicated by cleasing fire from heaven, and the wicked are confounded.

But the earth will be desolate because of its inhabitants, for the fruit of their deeds.
Shepherd Your people with Your staff, the flock of Your inheritance, who dwell alone in a forest in the midst of a garden land; let them graze in Bashan and Gilead as in the days of old. As in the days when you came out of the land of Egypt, I will show them marvelous things. The nations shall see and be ashamed of all their might; they shall lay their hands on their mouths; their ears shall be deaf…
Micah 7:13-16

This righteous flock does not arise from what men have called the temple of the Lord; but they are found one-by-one through the mercy of God as He brings them each into His fold. For He has left the ninety-nine for the one, and the ninety-nine have rejected the one; therefore He also has rejected them, saying,
“I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one Shepherd.”

But whom will He find crying out day and night for the restoration of His house through that new and rejected flock? And who knows the groanings of His Spirit over the ones whom He is yet drawing near? Let them not waver in their interceding; and let them not give a thought to the fools, who vainly scoff at their present sorrow.

The Temple & The Gold

Woe to you, blind guides, who say, “If anyone swears by the temple, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.” You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that has made the gold sacred?
Matthew 23:16-17

It is the temple which sanctifies the gold adorning it.
A temple full of idols is a temple adorned by fool’s gold.

A wicked and perverse generation seeks after and swears by a sign; but it is those having died with Christ, whose life is hidden with Him and not with idols – these are His true temple, these are His true sign. For within these does the kingdom truly consist: not in talk, but in power unto holiness and righteousness.
